Short answer, yes.
Long answer : The idea of creating something alone can be daunting. There is a lot internal and external problems and resistance you have to face while building something.
Some questions that come usually when you are trying to build something of your own.
Do I have time for this? If you are working a full time job or if you are a student this can be the first question that comes to your mind. The answer lies in how badly you want to do it. If this a side project for you : You will assign the same kind of time and effort.
If this is your main idea, the break-out idea that will help you move further in life : then you will find and assign better effort and time to it.
It depends on how much priority you place on this project.
You will make time, if it’s important.
A million more questions…
Do I have skills for this? Maybe you do, maybe you don’t. Yes, it is possible that you don’t have skills to create this project. But that shouldn’t stop you from trying.
Start working on it, see how far you can make it without running out of knowledge.
Frankly, you can get farther than you think.
Self-doubt is paralyzing.
Just start and learn as you go. It’s not going to be easy, sometimes you might feel like you can’t go any further –keep going. You will find a way.
Can I finish it? One of the other problem, that many over-thinkers have is that they see the finish line before even getting on the field. This can cause a lot of problems.
You can’t know if you will be able to finish something; if you don’t even start.
You don’t have to create the whole functioning app and release it.
Is this going to be worth it? If everyone knew this, we would never have by-products or new discoveries. You or me or anyone doesn’t know if anything is going to work or not. No one can tell you if something is going to work.
No one is 100% sure.
Let’s talk in numbers. Are you 40% sure about this? How about 30? 20? If you are 20% sure or more than that; then go for it.
You would never regret doing it, but you might regret not doing it.
As Jeff Bezos says : Minimize Regret.
Do it.
There are a million more questions that might pop up in your head, but the big question remains : Can you do it?
For the answer, let’s change it to : Do you want to do this or not?
If yes, then pull a chair and start working.
